week 8 People say I'm obsessed, Karren Shamo

It's okay, I am obsessed. I'll never get over lavender light. Someday I'll be lighting shows and people will be like, "hey, we've noticed that you've only been using lavender, are you okay?" and everything will be fine because this is my aesthetic, my style, my dream. Everything looks better in the lavender tints. 
This was taken at 5:22 in the evening, according to my phone, and I believe that is right before the sun starts setting. You can see that through my back kitchen window the light has the same quality, so the sun was doing this wash over the entire sky. I like this picture because of the box the light seems to create. While the whole house is dark and black, the outside light glows with an inviting pastel glaze. If I were to recreate this, I would put a barn door over the main light and add in a low intensity pewter blue light to give those soft cool tones on the floor. I'd like to see a pink cyc fading into lavender. Will it look like cotton candy? That's the goal. 
Maybe a touch of peach for fun.

    Very nice lighting specific palette - Lavender is the chameleon color, it is warm against blues and cool against ambers and pinks - it is the color of clouds and purple is the color of the "other" or "death and ritual" in color theory. It can do amazing things - nice post!

  I took this picture about 4 years ago during spring break of my senior year in high school. This is the beach in La Jolla. I'm from San Diego so I love going to the beach and have so many fond memories of La Jolla. This picture was taken about mid afternoon and it wasn't as bright and sunny as when I had first got there hours prior and thought it looked beautiful. Week 4 - L'arc en ciel - Grace McCarney

  While I'm visiting California for these few months I'm staying at my partner's parents' house. They have a chandelier in the front of the house that is next to a window. The window is facing west so during late afternoon/early evening everyday the light comes through and creates a stunning array of rainbows all throughout the second floor. This week they were especially bright and distinct. I also just learned how to say rainbow in french so that's what my title is. Whenever I see a rainbow like this, that appears somewhere I didn't expect it, it always brings a huge smile to my face. I know there's a science to it but it really feels magical. I think that is something that lighting does in theatre that not many other design forms can do. Depending on how it's lit and what is lit, it can truly make the stage feel magical. Week 10 - Plant Mom - Erica Batres

  This is a picture of my plants at around 4:30pm in the afternoon. The sun was not yet set, but it was definitely "golden hour" peaking through my bedroom window. I love the way the warm yellows from the sun brings out the warm earthy tones of the greens in the potted plants. Looking at all these colors together puts me in such a relaxing mood, and makes me so thankful that I have brought plants into my bedroom. There is a soft cascading yellow that makes this photo feel so warm and fresh to me. When I look at this picture I can feel the temperature of the room, slightly warm, but not stuffy.
