Week 1 | Lantern Floating Hawaii | Merle DeWitt

Hello Everyone, my name is Merle DeWitt III and I am one of the TA's for this class. The image I chose to share with you all is from my first professional Assistant Lighting design. I took this while they were testing our LED strip units. In the moment I remember thinking how beautiful the rainbow effect looked against the pale amber sunset; this coupled with the white set and ocean (that is barely visible) I have always loved this moment. Other than the beauty of this moment and the fond memory, I wanted to share this because I feel that this is a moment that not many people would have thought to take a picture of. This moment during the tech process, of a look that is not even a cue evoked an emotional response from me. Week 1-Natori Cummings-Haynes

Hello everyone, my name is Natori and I am one of your TAs for this class. Last summer I had the chance to go back and visit my hometown, Euharlee, Georgia. I had not been back home since Christmas time, so I was very excited for my visit. I've always been an early riser and one morning I woke up just in time to catch the sunrise. I stood outside in my driveway and watched the sky shift between shades of purple and amber as the sun began to rise over the horizon. In that moment I began to reflect on my childhood growing up in Georgia. In my teenage years, I remembered how eager I was to leave the sleepy country town that I currently lived in and to escape Georgia completely. It wasn't until I was standing there taking in the morning sunlight, that I realized how much I actually missed being home. There was just something about how the warm sky and how the sunlight silhouetted the rest of the neighborhood through the fog that made me feel completely at peace. This helped me redi...
