Week 8 - Night Beach - Delilah De La Rosa
(Sorry the photo is sideways! I couldn't figure out how to fix it.)
This is a picture I took earlier in the week looking out at The Wedge in Newport Beach. I was missing some of my friends on Monday night and asked them if they wanted to meet up and take night pictures at the beach. They were up for it, and this is one of the first photos I took when we got there. There were a lot of really bright street lights on, so the lighting in the photo didn't turn out quite how I was anticipating. Instead of a soft, sultry look, I captured an image that looks more harsh and exposed, which was not the same feeling I got while looking at the same beach in person with my own eyes. This fun little hangout showed how much a difference in lighting can make for a setting's mood and tone, and what to look for if I want to take pictures that convey certain emotions.
Really great connection to quality of light and representation - good example of how lighting can change the feel of a scene - this is why one of our primary jobs as an LD is to follow and support the action rather than leading it
