Week 6 - Apollo - Delilah De La Rosa



    This is a photo I recently took of my cat, Apollo. He is laying in bed next to a little stuffed toy I got that looks like him. I love this picture not only because it is of my pet, but also because of the warm and cozy feeling that it conveys. A few months ago, my boyfriend and I got string lights for our room. These lights feel much more comfortable and less jarring than the lamp we used to use, which is something that made me really appreciate the art of lighting. It's crazy how the intensities and colors of lights have the ability to alter my emotional state so much and going forward, I will only use cozy lights for my bedroom.

    Nice post and so glad you are connecting to light - the string lights are usually a warmer glow which helps create the cozy feel but also the texture they create help as well, along with their associations to festive times. We had some up for my mother-in-law's altar for day of the dead in our house and I was struck by how calming and beautiful they made the room look :)

  I took this picture about 4 years ago during spring break of my senior year in high school. This is the beach in La Jolla. I'm from San Diego so I love going to the beach and have so many fond memories of La Jolla. This picture was taken about mid afternoon and it wasn't as bright and sunny as when I had first got there hours prior and thought it looked beautiful. Since the pandemic has started, I haven't visited the beach at all due to the crowds. As much as I love this picture, I can't help but feel sad to think about the fact that I took simple outings with friends for granted. During this time in quarantine, I've realized that I can't take moments with my loved ones for granted and cannot wait to be able to spend time with them in person.

Week 4 - L'arc en ciel - Grace McCarney

  While I'm visiting California for these few months I'm staying at my partner's parents' house. They have a chandelier in the front of the house that is next to a window. The window is facing west so during late afternoon/early evening everyday the light comes through and creates a stunning array of rainbows all throughout the second floor. This week they were especially bright and distinct. I also just learned how to say rainbow in french so that's what my title is. Whenever I see a rainbow like this, that appears somewhere I didn't expect it, it always brings a huge smile to my face. I know there's a science to it but it really feels magical. I think that is something that lighting does in theatre that not many other design forms can do. Depending on how it's lit and what is lit, it can truly make the stage feel magical. Week 10 - Plant Mom - Erica Batres

  This is a picture of my plants at around 4:30pm in the afternoon. The sun was not yet set, but it was definitely "golden hour" peaking through my bedroom window. I love the way the warm yellows from the sun brings out the warm earthy tones of the greens in the potted plants. Looking at all these colors together puts me in such a relaxing mood, and makes me so thankful that I have brought plants into my bedroom. There is a soft cascading yellow that makes this photo feel so warm and fresh to me. When I look at this picture I can feel the temperature of the room, slightly warm, but not stuffy.
