Week 4 - L'arc en ciel - Grace McCarney
While I'm visiting California for these few months I'm staying at my partner's parents' house. They have a chandelier in the front of the house that is next to a window. The window is facing west so during late afternoon/early evening everyday the light comes through and creates a stunning array of rainbows all throughout the second floor. This week they were especially bright and distinct. I also just learned how to say rainbow in french so that's what my title is. Whenever I see a rainbow like this, that appears somewhere I didn't expect it, it always brings a huge smile to my face. I know there's a science to it but it really feels magical. I think that is something that lighting does in theatre that not many other design forms can do. Depending on how it's lit and what is lit, it can truly make the stage feel magical. I remember seeing Finding Neverland and there's a sad but beautiful moment at the end. If the lighting wasn't so soft and specific, the moment would have been lost. Anyways, rainbows are magical and right now I get to see a bunch of them everyday.
Your post makes me look forward to your projects. So glad you are noticing it so much and that it affects you. Nice post!
